Mark G. Watson Named Executive Director Of Radiological Society Of North America

The Board of Directors of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) is pleased to announce that Mark G. Watson will become the Society’s executive director on April 1, 2009. Watson comes to the position with nearly 20 years of experience working in key capacities at RSNA and has served as the Society’s interim executive director since September 2008.

Assistant executive director for finance and administration at RSNA for the past 15 years, Watson was selected after a thorough candidate search by Korn/Ferry International in conjunction with RSNA’s board of directors and executive director search committee.

Statement From DHHS Sec. Lanier Cansler On Patient Abuse Incidents At Central Regional Hospital – North Carolina

Both Governor Perdue and I pledged transparency at the beginning of this administration. Today, we learned of three incidents which have occurred at Central Regional Hospital involving patient care in the last few weeks.

On Feb. 1, a patient was assaulted by a health care technician at the CRH Raleigh campus. This incident was not reported to hospital administrators until an anonymous complaint was received by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) inspectors.

Four Out Of Five Incoming Prison Inmates In North Carolina Tested For HIV Under New Program

Four out of five inmates newly incarcerated in North Carolina prisons in November were tested for HIV through a new program launched by the Department of Correction and the Division of Public Health, the Raleigh News & Observer reports. The corrections department began the program on Nov. 1 in conjunction with the health division. According to the corrections department, of the 2,163 people who entered prisons in North Carolina in November, 1,784 received HIV tests. Ten inmates who previously were not aware of their HIV status were diagnosed with the virus last month, the News & Observer reports. Providing HIV/AIDS treatment to inmates costs the prison system about $1,700 per inmate monthly.

AP/Houston Chronicle Examines Telepharmacies In North Dakota

The AP/Houston Chronicle on Saturday examined telepharmacies — virtual pharmacy systems located in rural drug stores — in North Dakota. Staff, usually a registered pharmacy technician or nurse, use remote cameras connected to licensed pharmacists who view the original signed prescription, label, bottle where the pills are stored and the patient’s bottle. The pharmacist then approves the prescription and conducts a mandatory private consultation in real time with the patient.
