Timetable for medications

Question:

I take the following but am not sure what time of the day to take each, i.e., morning, evening etc. Lipitor 10mg, NifedipineXR 90mg, Quinapril 40mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, Tricor 145mg, metformin 1000mg, potassium citrate 1080mg times 2, daily aspirin, and daily mulit vitamin. thank you.

Answer:

Many physicians include instructions on when to take a prescribed medicine on the prescriptions. If not, your pharmacist can help you with determining the best times to take your medicines.

The general guidance is to take cholesterol lowering medicines at or near bedtime. So, take the Lipitor and the Tricor then. Other names for these medicines are atorvastatin and fenofibrate, respectively.

Take everything else except the second dose of potassium citrate in the morning with your morning meal.

Take the second dose of potassium citrate with your evening meal.
